1. Plaza de la Marina
This bicycle tour along the East Coast of Malaga begins at the Plaza de la Marina, the square between the new harbour of Malaga and the Old Town.
2. Muelle Uno – Harbour of Malaga
Opened in November 2011, Muelle Uno is the new commercial and entertainment center of the harbour of Malaga. It offers varied restaurants, different shops, a nice seaside with private docks(?), touristic excursion boats and also the big cruise liners from all over the world. In the middle of the harbour, you can find the old chapel of Virgen del Carmen de los Marineros, the virgen of the seafarers. At the end of Muelle Uno, you can find the lighthouse called La Farola.
3. Lighthouse La Farola
La Farola is one of the town's landmarks and has welcomed visitors of Malaga since 1817.
4. La Malagueta Beach
La Malagueta is a modern part of the city of Malaga with its nice beach and restaurants. This is the most touristic beach but also the nearest one to the historical centre of Malaga. For a special stop, you are invited to one of the numerous Chiringuitos, little restaurants directly at the beach. Some of them offer drinks and food, while others are a type of beach club with beach loungers and shade-givers. The Chiringuitos are located along the whole coast side of Malaga.
5. Baños del Carmen
A former beach resort and pleasure ground for the malaguean people. If you have a look from the Baños del Carmen back to the historical centre of Malaga, you have a wonderful view to the lighthouse, the tower of the cathedral and the fortress La Alcazaba, together in one picture. There is also a nice restaurant close to the water.
6. Nereo Museum
Directly behind the Baños del Carmen there is the old shipyard, Nereo. It's still in operation building ships and traditional boats called 'jábegas'.
7. Pedregalejo
In Pedregalejo, you can find the most popular beaches in Malaga, with a lot of fish restaurants and beach bars open all year round.
8. El Palo
El Palo is an old fisherman's village, which is directly connected to Pedregalejo. Here you can also find many restaurants and beach bars, which offer culinary specialties of the region.
For those who like fish, you should schedule a stop in El Palo, at one of the numerous restaurants, which are famous for their preparations of fresh fish; skewers of sea bass ('lubina' in Spanish), dorada, salmonettes and other fishes and seafood are grilled by the fire. A must have are the 'Espeto de Sardinas', grilled sardines (also a favorite dish of the Malaguenos on the beach). Not expensive but so delicious and always fresh.
9. El Candado Harbor
At the end of the beach promenade there is a small marina, El Candado. Just behind this small harbor begins a beautiful bike path to the next small city of La Cala del Moral.
10. Peñon del Cuervo
Cycling on this path, on the right side you'll find some nice less touristic beaches and the small rock formation Peñon del Cuervo. The path is accompanied by some tunnels.
11. Araña Beach
After Peñon del Cuervo you'll pass the next hidden beach of Malaga, the Araña Beach.
12. La Cala del Moral
The next small city on the East Coast of Malaga is La Cala del Moral. On the Beach Promenade you will also find many beach bars, but it's rather cozy and quiet too. The cycling path here is going over sand on the right to the pedestrian way.
13. Rincón de la Victoria
Rincon de la Victoria is not only an attraction because of its beautiful beaches, but also because of the Castle of Bezmiliana, built in the 18th century. Another feature of this beach town is the chapel, which was built at the beginning of the promenade, inside the beach rocks. Also the Tesoro Cave with cave paintings is worth a visit.
14. End of the Beach Promenade
When you arrive at the end of Rincon de la Victoria, about 15km away from the center of Malaga is the shop of bike2malaga. If you want to continue your cycling adventure please check our route Malaga > Nerja which leads you from this point to Nerja, some 50km further away from Malaga. Please be careful to have all the needed tools to repair the tire in case of puncture.
